Sue Duran ...when we experience joyful times in a warm and sunny environment. Here in Texas, just stick around long enough and that can all change quickly. And that is what is going to happen. We are about to return to the class room for the Summer II session. This is a five week course which will seem like a race, but I want us to enjoy as much art as possible. The more you see the more you are able to understand, and possibly change your mind about any misgivings you may have had in the past. Welcome to the class. Contact me that you have acessed this website. There is valuable information which will be relayed to you here. It is my belief that you will enjoy the class. Please leave a comment to my blog. We will begin our first project Monday after the Chapter 1 test. Bring your supplies, but leave your paints and paint brushes at home to use there. Use the images on here sort of like flash cards, by holding something over the artist name and title, and then check your results. Flash cards, real or electronic, work best when you go through them over and over again, then you will begin to recognize the images. I truly enjoy teaching about art. It is my desire that you will each find something new and hopefully exciting to learn about art.
Art is very broad and encompassing. There are some works out there which will be new and surprising to you. Some art you will like and some art you may not like. But let's find out why and for what purpose the artist chose to make that art, how and with what materials and media they chose to create it with, and what mark it makes on our society. This is much more important than whether you like it or do not. See you in class. Sue Duran ...in the things that come our way in everyday life. So it has been this fall. School started and I devote a lot of time to being sure everything including this website is correct and contains the information my students need and is current.
Leanna and I are creating soap, artwork, and leather items to sell at the festival in Bryan on Oct. 7 & 8th. It may not seem like a hard job if you are on the outside looking in, but believe me it is. Also we have been trying to build fence so we can move the horses to an area where they might find a little to eat for the rest of fall. No we are not doing the labor, but it takes planning and working around those who are building it. So there you have it. Life goes on. It is fall and we are returning to class.
Most of the images, chapter reviews, and documents you will need for class can be found in this website. Please contact me with any questions you have concerning class. Art Appreciation is all about seeing art and learning about art, past and present, and therefore applying what you have learned to what you see. This accumalation and analysis of knowledge in thinking, talking and writing about art is called "Critical Analysis." Critical analysis is not a negative term in art. It is the means by which we understand art. For the most part we will take a closer look at the elements and principals in organizing and creating art by design. We will discuss the processes and tools the artist uses to formulate, and create their work and how they relate the meaning to you the viewer. We will also learn about the changes in art through the Art Movements of the Modern Art Era. I look forward to seeing you in class. Sue Duran There is a process for detaching a painting from a wooden panel and attaching it to a canvas. In the past this process has been looked down on because of possible damage to the painting. I have as of yet to see the technique outlined. You can help me google for more info.
